Are You Creative?
The real question is: Do you think of yourself as creative?
Because, of course, you are. You were as a child. You still could be.
I’ve been reading Maslow, The Farther Reaches of Human Nature, which is a collection of his writings about peak experience, self-actualization, and creativeness [his word].
He says, “But in addition to this, there is another, possibly more immediate necessity for any viable political, social, economic system, and that is to turn out more creative people.” (p. 93)
Maslow also notes that creativeness is necessary for industry as well.
He is talking about the kind of primary freedom of expression that most children feel, but which we mature our way out of as we grow older.
Can 2026 be a creative year for you? Are you willing to gather some materials and try something new? Or maybe, you’d like to try your hand at poetry or baking. Do your New Year’s intentions include any adventure? Any freedom to play?
I think anyone can see that our society is in a place of transition and change. We need new ideas to face our current challenges. Cultivating our own creativeness is a way to serve.
Let me know what your creative plans are. What are you daring to try?
